September 26, 2018 (JS Research)

Textile exports for the month of Aug-2018 clocked in at US$1,26bn, up 7% YoY, while jumping 26% MoM, where the sequential improvement can partly be attributed to low base effect.

It will be interesting to note how textile exports pan out in FY19 given weakening rupee outlook and global cotton dynamics

Long term challenges persist for the sector, including higher input costs, expected cotton production shortfall and limited product offerings due to no significant R&D expenditure in the sector.

Positive news flow includes Japanese retailer Uniqlo's interest in Pakistan and the new government's efforts to provide incentives to export oriented sectors.

BHAT and BTL announced almost 40 percent of their PAT as dividends. Could it be a mistake? Now minimum requirement is 20 percent.

Pakistan Textiles: Currency devaluation set to benefit core earnings in 1QFY19

During 1QFY19, BMA textile universe is expected to post a healthy earnings growth of 87% YoY driven by improvement in both core operations (courtesy currency weakness) and one off gains.

NCL is expected to post EPS of PKR1.48 as compared to LPS of PKR0.4 in same period of last year, primarily as a result of improvement in core operations and one-off gains. Similarly, NML is also projected to post improved results with EPS of PKR2.23, up 11% YoY, largely driven by improved competitiveness post currency slippage.

Govt’s proposal to rationalize gas cost for the export oriented industry is a key potential upside trigger for textile companies, where annualized earnings impact on NML is estimated to be ~21%. However, we await clarity on the mechanism of subsidy before incorporating the same in our estimates.

Within BMA textile space, we prefer NML due to; (i) higher proportion of exports in sales (making it key beneficiary of govt. incentives to increase exports), (ii) lower leverage (19%), and (iii) potential benefit from gas cost rationalization.

Key risks to our call include (i) sharp hike in energy and raw material costs, (ii) negative fall-out from US China trade disputes, and (iii) lower than expected dividends from portfolio companies.

ASTM  :dunno: Again, good result.

Results of textiles are great, yet, they only moved for a day or two.

Maybe these are just 1 time jumps?
